The BPX3/8 PCI Express Backplane

The BPX3/8 PCI Express backplane provides electrical connections for a single or dual-processor single board computer, two PCI Express, four PCI-X and four PCI plug-in I/O cards.  The backplane design places the single board computer slot near the center of the backplane which enables more efficient air flow within a rackmount computer chassis.

The SBC’s two x8 PCI Express links drive the PCIe card slots directly while the remaining x4 link enables the dual-channel PCIe-to-PCI-X bridge chip that drives the four PCI-X slots and provides the interface to the PCI-to-PCI bridge that drives the four 64-bit/33MHz PCI slots.  The ten option card slots on the PCI Express backplane support standard PCIe, PCI-X and PCI plug-in I/O cards typically used in communication platforms.

Key features of the BPX3/8 PCI Express backplane include:

  • Supports one PICMG 1.3 combo or server-class SBC
  • SBC slot located near the center of the backplane improves chassis air flow
  • Supports two PCI Express and fourteen PCI-X/PCI cards
    • 2 –  x8 PCI Express electrical / x16 mech. connector
    • 4 – 64-bit/66MHz PCI-X
    • 4 – 64-bit/33MHz PCI
  • One, dual-channel PCIe-to-PCI-X bridge chip
  • One, PCI-to-PCI bridge chip
  • Long-life backplane with 7+ years of availability enhances system design stability
The BPX3/8 PCI Express backplane is designed, manufactured and supported in the USA, and comes with a 5-year warranty.
