IOB33 PCIe and IO Expansion Board

The IOB33 PCIe and IO Expansion Board

The IOB33 PCIe and IO expansion board delivers a x1 or x4 PCI Express (PCIe) expansion link from a Trenton single board computer down to a PCIe expansion slot on a PICMG 1.3 PCI Express backplane.  The PCIe link width delivered by the IOB33 PCIe and IO expansion board depends on the architecture of the specific single board computer.  This link expansion is useful in extending the I/O card interface capabilities of the rackmount computer system.

The IOB33 PCIe and IO expansion board is a dual-function board in that it replaces the previous IOB30 is an optional I/O expansion board.  The IOB33 connects to the controlled impedance connector (P20) on a Trenton PICMG 1.3 single board computer to complement the advanced USB and SATA I/O capability of the SBCs. A combo I/O plate is provided with the IOB33 to support the board’s legacy PS/2 and RS232 serial communication ports.  Interface headers are also available on the IOB33 PCIe and IO expansion board. The IOB33 is secured to the single board computer using the provided standoffs and IOB33 mounting hardware.

Key features of the IOB33 PCIe and IO expansion board include:

  • Optional plug-in module enhances rackmount computer system scalability
  • Optional module for Trenton PICMG 1.3 single board computers
  • Provides an additional x4 or x1 PCI Express link to a PICMG 1.3 backplane
  • May be used on backplanes without a PCIe expansion slot to just support legacy I/O
  • Enables PS/2 mouse and keyboard support
  • Supports two RS-232 serial communication ports
  • Parallel printer and floppy ports for legacy devices

MODEL NUMBER

IOB33

CARD EDGE INTERFACES

One x4 PCI Express mechanical interface that operates as a x4 electrical link when connected to a Trenton TSB7053 system host board.

One x4 PCI Express mechanical interface that operates as a x1 electrical link when connected to a Trenton JXT6966 or JXTS6966 system host board.

To use the PCIe link expansion functionality the PICMG 1.3 backplane must have a PCIe Expansion slot for the IOB33 edge connector.  See the suggested backplanes listings below.

The IOB33 may be used with any standard PICMG 1.3 backplane in those applications that just require the legacy I/O interface capability.

SUGGESTED BACKPLANES

Here is the current list of Trenton PCI Express backplanes that utilize the PCi express link expansion capabilities provided by the IOB33:

14-Slot Backplanes: BPG7087, BPC7041, BPC7009, BPG6600, BPG6544

20-Slot Backplanes: BPX6806, BPX3/14

Other Backplane Form factors: BPX6719, BPG6714, BPX5, BPG4

The IOB33 may be used with any standard PICMG 1.3 backplane in those applications that just require the legacy I/O interface capability.

(Note: The floppy port header on the IOB33 is not functional when using the IOB33 with the THD8141 SBC)
