The BPX3/14 PCI Express Backplane

The BPX3/14 PCI Express backplane provides electrical connections for a single or dual-processor single board computer, one IOB33 PCIe link expansion module, two PCI Express and fourteen PCI-X/PCI plug-in I/O cards.  The backplane design places the SBC slot near the center of the backplane to enable more efficient air flow in a rackmount enclosure.

Some of the single board computer’s PCI Express links drive the PCIe card slots directly while other links enable the dual-channel PCIe-to-PCI-X bridge chips to interface the PCI-X/PCI slots into the system.  The sixteen option card slots support standard PCIe, PCI-X and PCI plug-in I/O cards typically used in communication platforms.

The nominal backplane thickness is 0.080”; however, the backplane mounting holes are recessed 0.018” on the bottom to provide an effective PCB thickness of 0.062” for use in the chassis design process.

Ethernet Interfaces

The BPX3/14 backplane supports the optional Ethernet routing feature of the SHB Express (PICMG 1.3) specification. Two 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet RJ-45 connectors (P13 and P14) are available for use on the backplane.

The standard BPX3/14 backplane is available with vertical or low-profile right angle power connector suitable for use with either an ATX or EPS power supply.
