The BPX6806 PCI Express Backplane
The BPX6806 PCI Express backplane is designed to support up to eighteen PCIe plug-in I/O cards and a PICMG 1.3 single board computer. Four of the eighteen x16 PCIe mechanical card slots are driven with x8 PCIe electrical links. The remaining fourteen x16 mechanical card slots are driven with x4 PCIe electrical links.
The eighteen slots support standard PCI Express plug-in I/O cards often used in communication platforms. A single-processor Trenton TSB7053 SBC or dual-processor BXT7059 SBC has the PCIe links used to drive the backplane’s PCIe switches integrated into the CPUs.
Trenton SBCs and the BPX6806 backplane switches support the PCI Express auto-training function to ensure SBC-to-option card communications regardless of PCIe interface type or link width. This SBC and backplane design feature maximizes system flexibility by enabling system support for standard PCI Express 3.0, 2.0 or 1.1 option cards having various PCIe electrical interface link widths such as x16, x8, x4 and x1.

Board dimensions: 16.4” x 11.9”
The nominal backplane thickness is 0.080”; however, the backplane mounting holes are recessed 0.018” on the bottom to provide an effective PCB thickness of 0.062” for use in the chassis design process.
